AERI, together with the entire university community, mourns the passing of Professor José Jerônimo de Morais, one of the pioneering faculty members at UEFS in the institution’s Language and Literature program (whose Student Directory is named with his name), former president of ADUFS (UEFS Faculty Association), and mentor to several generations of educators and other professionals in the field of letters.
Along with his wife, Professor Ana Angélica Vergne de Morais (in memoriam), also a professor at UEFS, a great educator of teachers and “readers,” as she used to say, they influenced generations of professionals through their ethical commitment, sensitivity to social causes, and the effort to achieve a high-quality and socially oriented public education.
In this moment of sadness and farewell, we honor the legacy of a professor who left his mark on education in Feira de Santana and elevated the meaning and importance of being an educator, in a society that, even today, remains characterized by contradictions and a lack of recognition of the “mother of all professions.”
